Aurora Borealis Restaurant in Manitowish Waters

We arrived at 6pm on a Monday night. There were four patrons at the bar. Two tables out of twenty were occupied. I had a chance to wander around and read some of the old time resort ads, left over from the previous owner who ran this location as “ Pine Barons”. The pine baron carving still greets you outside the front door. After an awkward five minutes as the bartender served her patrons at the bar and ignored us, a young woman approached us and said”I don’t know if we are going to accept walk-ins this evening.” Good bye!

Had a wonderful breakfast. Server was friendly and attentive. Food well presented on the plate. Served hot. Menu had a nice variety of options. Have recommend this restaurant to others. Will definitely put this on my favorite list.

Best breakfast, and best dinner within 50 miles, probably more...awesome staff, unique menu, (especially dinner) use local suppliers...and love the porch in summer. We are locals and have checked out each of the many good options we have here in MW, and AB stands above the rest for quality of food and consistent solid service...well done, keep it up, well be back, again and again.

Food was overcooked and waited for 40 minutes as others who came in after us received their breakfast before us. I asked our server 3 times what was going on as she repeated saying it would be up shortly. The waitress was polite but the food was not good. I'd go back if it was worth the wait but I've heard that there's a problem with consistency here and experienced it first hand!

Wow! The food was amazing. Fried goat cheese balls was a first and it was delicious! Ribeye steak sandwich was tender and cooked to perfection. Highly recommended! We had some local brews that were good as well. Friendly staff and atmosphere.

Small restaurant with quiet dining in a screened in porch. High quality ingredients are expertly prepared in interesting combinations. Well worth a visit.

If your a breakfast person... you need to make the trip to this hidden hideaway. Best biscuits and gravy by far in this neck of the woods.

Not inexpensive, but very good, interesting dishes. Good value. Beef tenderloin was excellent.

The waitress was fantastic. She was a younger gal with tats on her arms. Very nice. The food was very good too. I hope if the owner reads this, they will give the girl a raise. I was there on a Friday morning.

Tasty little breakfast and dinner spot. We were dead-set on going to the Paul Bunyan restaurant and the gal, maybe Jesse?, at Hawks Nest Outfitters suggested we try the Aurora Borealis. I had the Reuben Omelet because I had never heard of such a thing. It was delicious. I would definitely suggest you check this place out if you're in the area.

I am appalled at the responses to some of the reviews here by the owner/chef to people who were treated exactly like we were last Friday night. We did not have reservations and were rudely told they would take us and we could wait at the bar. Well THAT was a mistake. I have never seen a more disrespectful bartender. She was rude to us and the wait staff. The food was just okay, nothing special but the way we were treated as paying customers was uncalled for. If you didnt want our business all you had to do was POLITELY tell us you were full. Oh and Kevin, that bartender was talking smack about you too.

I had elk chops and elk sausage for dinner Saturday night. Wow. Perfectly done.I have eaten there too much times in the past few years and food quality is superb.

Busy place. Expect a wait, but amazing food. I had the spinach asparagus feta omelette. It was awesome!

Our simple breakfast for two was 28$. No silver dollar pancakes substitution allowed for toast...disappointing. They had free wifi for us customers but, the router refused to connect. Our waiter made no attempt to fix it. He just said oh well.Food was good portions and tasty.

Man, the food here is just so good, I can't get over it. Such a nice setting, too. Order the short rib dish. You'll be amazed!!! Such flavor, such tender roast beef.

OMG!! This was by far one of the best breakfasts i have had in a long time. If you are a biscuits and gravy lover this is the place to go. Best ever.

Great service. Fabulous menu. Beautiful Northwoods ambiance. A must visit for breakfast ot dinner. I was also there for a little black dress night. They did a nice job handling a big group..

Great stop for a tasty breakfast

I really like this place because I was able to order food at the bar and watch the baseball game right in front of me.The food was made with healthy natural ingredients and was excellent. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was cozy.

The waitress was very considerate both with wearing a mask and standing back while taking my order. She also helped me decide between two choices and she was right! Great Mexican Omelette breakfast!

Omgoosh I had the best halibut ever!!!My boyfriend had the salmon and we what a delicious salad u can't wait to go back.my hat off to the chef.

The food is incredible - especially for a restaurant in the northwoods of Wisconsin. The wait staff, hostess, and bar tender were all experienced and polite. The menu has a lot of variety, which could accommodate many different tastes and dietary restrictions. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

We took a chance on this restaurant after a reservation mix-up at another place. It ended up being a mistake, from the moment we walked in. The bartender/hostess was sarcastic about our request, and then neglected us, (which we explained that we weren’t looking for the any special given the lack of reservations). We noticed that not only was she rude to us, she also treated her staff poorly, putting down their orders or ignoring them. We were seated a table separate from the rest clientele, as if we were not acceptable. The food was passable, just standard Wisconsin fish fry food, (although there wasn’t even a dumpling in the chicken dumpling soup). Wait staff forgot to take our order, etc. etc...we felt stuck in a bad movie. Anyway, suffice it to say, we won’t back.

This place is garbage. Not that the food is it's just getting in there. Place was more than half empty I said party of 6 and this old lady server gave me the rudest face I've ever seen. No kind of hospitality

Goat cheese balls were delicious and our party was generally pleased with our dishes. We weren't impressed with the mussels but everything else was wonderful. Birch syrup, too

The food & service was fabulous. For a very nice dinner that's not outrageously expensive, this is THE place in Vilas county.

Best fish fry in the northwoods. Great cocktails too. The steak was great, the lamb shanks are out of control. Really the only legit fine dining restaurant around!
